All Fleming Therapy Services, Inc. employees undergo a rigorous screening and hiring process. In addition, all employees must complete annual HIPAA awareness training as well as other company directed training.

All therapists are licensed by Virginia’s Department of Health Professionals and also have their competencies and certifications from their respective organizations, American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA ) for speech therapist, and the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) for occupational therapist.  In addition, each therapist undergoes frequent Certification through the Council for Affordable Quality Health Care (CAQH) and certification through individual insurance companies to be a rendering provider.  Finally, Fleming Therapy has an in-house Credentialing, Certification and Training department responsible for keeping our therapist certified and employee trained. This department conducts routine audits in all treatments and patient interactions to maintain the highest standards of care and privacy for our patients.

Mrs. Carrie L. Fleming, President and Chief Executive Officer, Fleming Therapy Services, Inc.

Carrie Fleming is the President and CEO of Fleming Therapy Services, Inc. and the Executive Director for Fleming Speech. She graduated from the University of Toledo in 1995 with a Masters in Education and became a licensed and certified speech language therapist in 1996, following her Clinical Fellowship Year. She founded Fleming Speech Therapy Services, Inc. in Stafford, VA in the fall of 2004 realizing her lifelong dream to bring high quality speech therapy to local families in need of a loving and nurturing environment. Fleming Speech Therapy Services, Inc. under her leadership has grown into Fleming Therapy Services, Inc. hosting Fleming Speech and Fleming Occupational Therapy.

Carrie has been licensed in four different states, Ohio, Virginia, California and Hawaii and has worked in several speech therapy settings including private practice, School systems and as an instructor at the University of Hawaii and University of Toledo for graduate students. She has also served as the Director for the Scottish Rite pre-school for speech and language delayed children in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has also served as a member of Toast Masters where she earned her DTM. Carrie was elected in 2011 as Vice President of Speech Therapist to the Board of the Speech and Hearing Association of Virginia (SHAV).  Carrie is the mother of six children and a military wife.

Ms. Cheryl Schlitt, Director Fleming Occupational Therapy (Centreville and Alexandria Offices) – Cheryl graduated from Touro College in 1992 with a BS in Health Sciences and a MA in Occupational Therapy. She specialized in Pediatrics, and began her career with a consulting agency by providing home and school based services for children. Within two years she organized her own business and began contracting with school districts in Eastern Long Island, NY for occupational services. For the past 19 years, Cheryl has grown her New York business with contracts for Suffolk County, NY Department of Health Services as an independent Occupational Therapy provider for Preschool children. Her New York business also has experience in providing home based Occupational Therapy services for children and adults. She is recognized in Suffolk County NY as a subject matter expert and has taken on a role as field work supervisor to local colleges and universities to educate prospective Occupational Therapists. She has volunteered her time to serve as a field work supervisor for Stony Brook University, Touro College, and Suffolk County Community College.

Cheryl was recruited by Fleming Therapy Services, Inc. in the spring of 2011 and agreed to join Fleming Speech Therapy Services, Inc as the Director in the summer of 2011, while still having her business in New York. Cheryl is currently licensed to practice Occupational Therapy in NY and VA. She is a long standing member of AOTA and NYSOTA.

Mrs. Jeanette Sullivan, Director of Credentialing, Certification and Training, Business/Office Manager – Stafford – Jeanette first joined Fleming Speech Therapy Services, Inc. in the spring of 2007 as receptionist, billing and office manager. From that spring, Jeanette has worked with Carrie and the Fleming family to increase our customer service as well as our exposure in the Northern area. Jeanette has been assigned Director of Credentialing, Certification and Training to ensure the highest degree of compliance.  Over 10 years of medical administration experience.

Mrs. Laura Glessner, M.S.P.A., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist, Director Fleming Speech, (Stafford Office) – Laura received her Master’s degree from the University of Washington in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She joined Fleming Speech Therapy, Inc. in 2010, with experience in teaching research-based methods to the SLP staff in Spotsylvania County, where she served as the SLP and Coordinator. Laura has experience in PROMPT, Beckman Oral Motor Exercises, and language/learning disorders. She has continued her education at the post-graduate level at VCU.  Over 20 years of speech therapy service.

 

Ms. Katie Jefferson, M.A., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist,  Director (Centreville) – Katie earned her Masters of Arts degree in Speech and Language pathology from The University of Toledo in 2007. She has experience working with clients across the age-span and has served as a speech language pathologist in private practice and hospital settings. She has provided services to young children and adolescents, addressing a variety of speech and language disorders such as specific language impairment, apraxia of speech, autism spectrum disorders, voice disorders, fluency, phonological/articulation disorders, developmental delays, and pragmatic language disorders. Her experience with adult populations has included diagnosis and treatment of aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, voice disorders, and acquired impairments in memory and cognition. Katie is certified by The Hannen Program ® to teach It Takes Two to Talk and trained in PROMPT. She also is certified in Vital Stim Therapy for dysphagia in adults.

Ms. Karen Aspden, M.S. CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist,  Director Fleming Speech (Alexandria Office) – Karen received her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from James Madison University. She has experience in the private setting working with pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations. Karen enjoys working with patients with Autism Spectrum Disorders, voice disorders, apraxia, fluency, articulation disorders, and receptive/expressive language disorders. Karen is certified in the Beckman Oral Motor program.

Mrs. Amy O’Brien, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Amy graduated from Towson University in 2006, with her Master’s in Science, earning her CCC-SLP. Her past work experience includes working with Skilled Nursing Facility in Arlington, VA, as well as Fairfax Co. Public Schools. She has worked with conducting assessments and clinical intervention for adults with cognitive, communication and swallowing disorders, and was responsible for prevention, identification, evaluation, and treatment management for preschool through fifth grade students with disorders in the areas of speech and/or language, specifically targeting articulation, voice, fluency, receptive/expressive language, and pragmatic language disorders.

Ms. Christine Zanni, M.A. CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Christine graduated from the University of Toledo in May 2008, with both Bachelor and Master’s Degrees. She has had experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder, apraxia, AAC devices, Early Intervention and expressive and receptive language disorders. She is trained in The Beckman Oral Motor Program. Also, Christine is currently supervising a clinical fellow.

 

Mrs. Dawn Burgess, CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Dawn has worked as an SLP specializing in pediatrics, including in-home early intervention, private outpatient clinic and the school settings with her preferred setting being outpatient pediatrics. She has experience with oral motor/sensory integration, articulation/apraxia, receptive/expressive language, various syndromes, functional communication, and feeding needs. She graduated from University of Mary Washington with her Bachelor’s Degree in 1981 and received her Master’s Degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1983.  Over 11 years of speech therapy service.

Ms. Jacie A. Curry, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Jacie earned a B.A. degree from the University of New Mexico and completed her Master’s degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She has practiced in both the public and private clinical settings. She has experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder, language disorder, speech sound disorder, dyspraxia, intellectual disability, and fluency disorders. She also has experience with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and is proficient in sign language.

Ms. Jennifer Schuldt M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University, Fort Wayne in Communication Disorders and her Master of Science from Marshall University in West Virginia. She is an experienced and certified speech language pathologist who has worked with a variety of settings seeing individuals exhibiting a wide range of disabilities including: autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, Cerebral palsy, apraxia of speech, learning disabilities, ADHD, auditory processing, hearing loss, cochlear implants, failure to thrive, undiagnosed syndromes, short-term memory loss, cognitive impairment, oral motor, sensory disorders, expressive & receptive language delays, and articulation & phonological disorders. Jennifer is comfortable using basic ASL to help communicate wants and needs and promote verbalizations, PECS, and different modes/devices of AAC. She especially enjoys helping individuals achieve their goals so that they can better function and communicate as healthy, happy, and self-confident individuals. She is a member of the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) and Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Virginia (SHAV).

Ms. Jamie Boyle M.S., CF-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Jamie earned her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Loyola University Maryland in May of 2011. Jamie joined the Fleming Therapy team in July 2011. She has experience working with clients of all ages from premature infants to geriatrics. Jamie is experienced in working with children in a variety of settings including pediatric hospital, clinics and public schools. Jamie has provided services to a diverse population of pediatrics including the assessment and treatment of various feeding, swallowing, cognitive, voice, speech, and language disorders.  Jamie attended a seminar for competency in pediatric feeding in Chicago in August 2011 which focused on the behavioral approach to treating children with feeding disorders. Jamie is dedicated to serving the pediatric population and their families with the best quality of care under the best practices.

Mrs. Pam S. Morrison, M.A., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Pamela earned a B.S. degree from Towson State University and completed her Master’s degree at George Washington University. She has worked in the field in schools and in private practices since 1989. She has provided therapy to clients from toddler to adulthood who needed services for varying speech and language disorders.  Over 20 years of speech therapy service.

 

Mrs. Dorothy Gaspard-St. Cyr, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Dorothy has been a part of the Fleming Team since October 2005. She received her graduate degree from the University of Virginia and her undergraduate degree from the City University of New York. She has experience in the school and private settings, and has worked with all age groups from preschool to adults. Dorothy has worked with varying communication disorders including: Autism, Apraxia, Stuttering, Phonological Disorders and Receptive and Expressive developmental delays. Dorothy has received her certificate in the PROMPT treatment method.

Mrs. Gail Squires, M.A., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Gail graduated from Trenton State College with her BA Teacher of the Deaf and MA Speech Pathology. She has 30 years of experience with all age groups: early intervention through adults in private practice, hospital setting and educational setting. She has also spent 2 years as Instructor and Clinic Supervisor at Radford University.

Mrs. Kristi Reiche, M.S.P., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Kristi received her Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of South Carolina in 2007. Before relocating to Virginia in 2009, she provided speech therapy services to inter-city schools in Columbia, South Carolina. Kristi received training in Auditory Verbal Therapy and has experience working with various degrees of hearing impairments including cochlear implants. Kristi is also PROMPT trained.

Mrs. Leslie Joy, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Leslie graduated with a Masters degree in speech language pathology for the State University of New York in Fredonia in 2000, and has been employed with Fleming Speech Therapy since 2005. She enjoys working with children with autism, language disorders, and articulation difficulties.  Over 11 years of speech therapy service.

Ms. Seijra Toogood, M.Ed. CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Seijra received her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from James Madison University in 1998 and her Master of Education (M.Ed.) from University of Georgia in 2000. She currently works for Fairfax County Public Schools as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Elementary School setting. She has provided Speech/language services to children with severe Autism in a structured Applied Behavioral Analysis program as well as a variety of developmental disorders and is certified in Early Intervention birth to 3 years. Seijra is the current President of SHAV (Speech Language Hearing Association of Virginia).

Ms. Nicole S. Kerr, MS, CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Nicole received her Bachelor degree in the area of Linguistics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and her Master degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Howard University. In addition to her part time work at Fleming Speech Therapy, she is currently employed full time at a middle school for the Prince William County Public School system. She works closely with children having learning disabilities and emotional disturbances, as well as, articulation weaknesses and stuttering. While she has experience working with children and adults with a variety of disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and mental retardation, she specializes in school-age language disorders, specifically literacy and reading fluency. She has received specialized training in the Wilson Reading System, Read Naturally, adolescent language and literacy, emergent literacy interventions, vocabulary building, early intervention strategies for children with apraxia, and PROMPT.

Shannon Robinson Orr,  M.S.P.,CCC-SLP - Shannon Robinson Orr graduated Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech in 1997 and received her Masters degree in Speech Pathology from the University of South Carolina in 1999.  She has worked as a speech language pathologist in the public school system as well as the private sector.  She was published in the Journal of Medical Speech Pathology and has earned ASHA’s ACE award for continuing education. She has worked with all ages and enjoys helping people achieve their maximum potential.  A mother of two, Shannon enjoys working with children.  She joined Fleming Therapy Services in January 2012.

Ms. Sascha Rogers, M.S., OTR/L - Sascha earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Sweet Briar College, and earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Puget Sound.  Sascha specializes in adult acute care and pediatrics.  She works primarily with children on the Autism Spectrum including children with Sensory Processing Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified.  Other areas of expertise include treating children with Downs Syndrome, various genetic disorders, and Cerebral Palsy just to name a few.

Sascha is Therapeutic Listening trained and certified.  She is trained in the S.O.S Approach to feeding, working with “Picky Eaters versus Problem Feeders.”  Sascha also received advanced S.O.S Feeding training to work with children with GERD and children on the Autism spectrum with feeding difficulties.  She is trained in NDT Handling techniques for infants and toddlers.  Additional specialty areas include: Sensory Integration and Handwriting specialist.

Sascha works comfortably in a range of settings including in-patient hospital, private clinics, and home-health (Early Intervention).

Ms. Erin Goldberg, M.A., CF-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist – Erin earned her Master’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from Michigan State University in May of 2011. Erin joined the Fleming Therapy team in October 2011. She has experience working with a broad population, from toddlers and young children to adults and geriatrics with a variety of diagnoses. Erin has worked in multiple settings, including: on-site and in-home for the school systems, home health/private practice, hospital, and on-site with adults for the State of Michigan. She has assessed and provided treatment for those who needed services for varying cognitive, swallowing, speech, and language disorders.

Mrs. Debra Tharp, Reading Specialist and Math Tutor – Debra Tharp is the Reading Specialist here at Fleming. She is also currently the Resource Teacher at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School. She received her B.S. degree from St. Leo University in Florida. She is currently completing a Masters in Education as a Reading Specialist, at Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, VA. Mrs. Tharp has been involved in teaching for over ten years. She has been a reading tutor at Fleming Speech Therapy for six years. Mrs. Tharp has taught the Even start Family Literacy Program in Yorktown VA. She has also taught first grade at All Saints Catholic School in Manassas, VA, and third grade for three years at Holy Cross Academy in Fredericksburg VA. Mrs. Tharp has received special training in the Lindamood-Bell Phonics Program, and conducts assessments in reading and math, provides instruction in writing, reading fluency, and reading comprehension.

Mrs. Jennifer Fleming, Billing Manager – Jennifer, a native of Northern Vermont, agreed to relocate to Northern VA in the winter of 2010 to assist as the billing Manager as Fleming Speech grew in popularity. Jennifer has 38 years of experience working in various positions in Hospitals and medical offices, including positions such as office receptionist, transcriber, and billing manager. Over the years, she has had the opportunity to expand her billing knowledge through classes including courses on medical terminology, transcription, and HIPAA. She has also taken courses to familiarize herself with the policies of many insurance companies.

Mrs. Heather Patterson,  Finance Manager, Assistant Billing Manager – Heather joined Fleming Therapy in 2011 after being certified in a Medical Billing and Coding. She is responsible for all accounting for all venders that support Fleming Speech and Fleming Occupational Therapy. She assist Jennifer in following up on all Patient accounts and insurance benefits.

Ms. Renee Eldridge, Administrative Assistant / Receptionist (Centreville) – Renee has gained valuable medical office experience in a short period of time. She has worked in a variety of medical office settings and experienced working with several children with Autism. Renee is responsible for the smooth patient and client interaction at all offices with all front desk receptionists. She is responsible to ensure all offices have the proper materials to provide the highest quality of treatment and that all patients are ready to be seen by respective offices including authorizations. She is pursuing further instruction in order to become a CPR instructor for the company.

Mrs. Amanda Carnicom, Administrative Assistant / Receptionist (Alexandria) – Amanda graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver in May 2007 earning a B.A. degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She has completed some graduate level course work in audiology at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She plans on continuing her education at the professional level.

Ms. Katharine Fuka, Administrative Assistant / Receptionist (Centreville) – Katharine graduated from James Madison University in May 2011. She has an undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She plans on pursuing her master’s degree in either Speech-Language Pathology or Occupational Therapy.

 

 

Ms. Blake Phillips, Administrative Assistant / Receptionist (Stafford) – Blake has worked as a receptionist for a few years in fields varying from auto retail to government positions to medical offices.
